Service – Children’s University

My voluntary work at Children’s University was also resumed in September, so I can help with their workshops. The topic of this particular one was „How to hold a course for Mars?” and was obviously space related. Because it was the first workshop Saturday after the pause and with all the new restrictions, it was a little bit chaotic at the beginning, but eventually everything went well and it was fantastic to see how kids are happy to be back at the classes. When it comes to my voluntary work at the Children’s Hospital though, it will not be possible now, because of the lasting pandemic.

Activity – Girls League

The fifth season of Girls League was put on hold in March when the pandemic had spread in Poland, and was resumed now in September. This game we played against Aces, and it was the first of two games left before finals. Aces have the strongest team in this season of the league and only half of our team has shown up after the break, this is why the match was particularly difficult and exhausting. Our team had to play 60 minutes non-stop, without any changes in the squad. Yet, even though we lost, we still have a place in finals guaranteed, as the second best team in the league.

Service – Animal Rights Faculty

During this time’s meeting we talked about tapirs. The species we focused ourselves on was the mountain tapir, due to the fact that it is the most endangered one. Its population was drastically diminished by cutting forests that are their natural habitat and also by hunting for their fingers and skins. We also discussed what can we do to change their situation.

Activity – Basketball Training

This school year’s trainings started early, in the last week of August, but I was in Mazury sailing again at that time. I did though manage to go on the last holiday training on the 31st of August. I have not trained since the Draft Camp, so I needed a moment to come back to my pace, but fortunately the training was a bit lighter this time and we practiced basketball finishes. I am really glad to be back to the regular trainings, because I have missed them over the summer.

Service – Foundation for Kids with Cancer

Because most of the regular volunteers in the Foundation for Kids with Cancer were not available during the holidays, I went on a one-time voluntary work to help them prepare 3000 ribbons symbolising the awareness of children cancer. Since September is the month of consciousness about this particular type of cancer, we made golden-ribbon pins that are going to be worn by Polish Airline pilots and stewardesses or stewards.

Activity – Draft Camp

This is actually not a single activity, but rather a collective one. Draft Camp is a ten-day basketball camp, where we get to train at least two or three times a day and also play a game in the evening. On the second day we are subjected to a series of basketball and physical tests, and then chosen by the coaches into four teams, that exist only for the time of the camp. Then we play for a camp’s championship, one game every day. Even though my team did not make it high in the ranks, I had appreciate the possibility to play and gain new experience.
