Action – Girls League

This was our first game in the fourth season and we started off with Sparks. Although the match was announcing itself quite well, we lost by nine points. However, the difference was not very big, it was not that small either. This was definitely in our reach to win. Yet, it is just the first game and the season is only starting, which gives us opportunity to take off in upcoming battles. We have plenty of new players right now, so we are only begging to figure out ourselves and the way we will be playing this season. Therefore, I am rather optimistic about the future. Certainly, we cannot get defeated by such failure and need to keep going in order to achieve something greater. It is impossible to win every time in basketball.

Creativity – Stencils

This time as part of my creativity I have done some stencils. The topic of the first one is still connected to anatomy, because it depicts a heart. The second one, though, is connected to another subject of birds. I have drown birds a little bit the previous year and think I am going to come back to that to just explore it more. The animal I have chosen here is a toucan. To create those stencils I have firstly drawn sketches and afterwards traced them on a plastic film, this way it can be used many times, because it does not get soaked. Afterwards I have cut out the shapes and painted them with spray on some notebooks or a skateboard. I think it is a fun and easy way to create reproducible designs that can be later put on may surfaces.

Service – Children’s University

I signed up for looking after the classes about DNA that were held at SGGW. Kids were supposed to be extracting their own DNA. They simply had to rinse their mouths with Oshee and then spit it out. Next step was to add soap and ethanol, so the DNA isolate and become visible. Children could see these white small clots of their own DNA. After that they learned about the complementarity rule. I think the workshop was really interesting for them. It is very important that there is this part of a class that requires much involvement and their own work. My job there was to assist at those workshops and then help clean after them. Apart from that, I had to check the lists.

Action – Girls League

We are now starting a new fourth season of Girls League. As always, before we start playing, there is a training to discuss team’s new strategy and welcome new members to Mystics. This season is different from others, because many of our former members had to resign due to various reasons. Therefore we have plenty od new players, four precisely. Since we are first going to clash with Sparks, we had the first part of training with them and a quick friendly match at the end. Our coach introduced us to two new serves, which we managed to do quite well, at least for now. I am eager to see how they will appear during the game. Generally, as I look at our team, I really look forward to the upcoming season.

Creativity – Drawing

As I am still exploring the topic of human anatomy in my works, this time I decided to draw a skull. Recently I have bought myself a sticker album “Stickerbomb Skulls”. There are art works from many artists there and, as the title suggests, they are all stickers. At the beginning there are notes from few artist, describing why they’ve chosen skulls for their art. I’ve got inspired by texts from Micke Nikander and KITRÃ, which stated that skulls can actually be symbols of human nature and joy. That’s why my skull has colourful patterns and is not supposed to symbolise dark thoughts. I also referred to Mexican Dia de Muertos, which being the day of commemorating ancestors, is famous for its joyful character and colourful skulls.

Service – Children’s Hospital of Warsaw Medical University

This time we got the job to clean one of the hospital’s play rooms. We had to put the toys that were lying all over the room to some cupboards and drawers and arrange the books on the shelves. Generally our task was to make the room look neat. It is really great that the foundation takes cafe of the fact that the playrooms are made up regularly, so it is later pleasant for kids and their parents to spend time there. Some toys are too big to be hidden in the drawers, so you have to take them out. They are more noticeable for children that way, so it is then very rewarding to see how they willingly play with those toys.

Action – Basketball Trainings

As I already mentioned, my main action activity is basketball. I train two times each week. Lately we are practicing rebounding and covering opponent players throughout whole court. Two days ago we did several exercises that prepared us for making more offensive rebounds. The coach explained to us how important is that you keep an eye on your player and the ball all the time, so your reaction will be faster than the opponent’s move. I always enjoy those trainings, because I can still master my performance in this sport and shed some of the everyday stress.

Creativity – Drawing

As I am still exploring the topic of tattoo art, my next drawing is also connected to that. Though, this has also elements of anatomy. There is a heart in the centre and human palms in two corners, reaching for the heart. As I am extending biology, anatomy is a topic of my interest. One of best ways, in my opinion, to learn the appearance and structure of our inner side is to draw them, because then you truly study all the elements, as you try to capture them in the best way possible. Therefore, apart from drawing skills, you can widen the knowledge at the same time.

Service – Children’s Hospital of Warsaw Medical University

This year, similarly to the previous one, I will be doing my voluntary work in Ronald McDonald Foundation in Children’s Hospital of Warsaw Medical University and in Uniwersytet Dzieci Foundation. For my first service I went to Children’s Hospital with two school colleagues. Because they were new to this foundation, a small introduction was made to us and we headed to our work. We were to do some drawings of animals, so kids can colour them later. Sometimes it is hard to think of a design that will attract a child, but it gives lot of joy to then see your picture coloured. It is amazing that we are able to maybe bring a bit of colour to these kids lives.

Action – Bowling

Most of my action posts will probably be about basketball, as this is the sport that I train. However, because recently I have been bowling with my friends, this will be the topic of my todays post. Although I love basketball, it is always nice to do something different for a while. We played several rounds and had great fun during it. I have to tell that bowling really forces you to focus while throwing. You also need plenty of precision to hit the skittle properly, especially when there is one or two left. The sport is also demanding for your wrists, you will definitely feel them after. Despite that it might be sometimes treated as an easy party game, it is really something that requires huge amount of accuracy and the knowledge of the technique.
