CAS Project – TEDx Designer

My first task was to create the logo for our this year’s TEDx that will take place in IB Raszyńska. I have to say that due to the length of our school’s name and the fact that we are registered as Youth event, the logo demands more work. All this must be provided on the logo. Apart from that all proportions and the official font must be kept. It was quite a challenge to make this logo, but one to overcome. I found a logo generator and some original TEDx templates. Unfortunately those templates did not suppose that someone will be needing to put both, a long location name and the word „youth” into the logo. That was why I needed to edit those templates instead of just plugging the phrases in. Using the Photoshop program I managed to complete the logo with correct proportions and all the information, that this is a Youth event and its location. I made two coloristic versions, which I attached to this post.

Service – Children’s University

I have been assisting during the workshops about pain. The exact topic was „Why does a hit hurt?”. Classes took place at the Academy of Physical Education and were lead by two alumni. They explained to the kids the sources of pain. Also, children got to understand the general effect of painkillers. Due to the active format of the workshop and numerous games, kids were really interested. I think that appropriate approach is vital when it comes to working with children at that age (between six and seven years old), because it is sometimes hard to grab their attention. Yet, the goal was rather achieved, as I collected mostly good opinions after the workshop.

Action – Girls League

Even though this was our team’s fourth match, for me it was only third one. I have unfortunately skipped one game. Before this play our Mystics had only one victory and two losses on its account. This is why the second match with Sparks was so important for us. Fortunately we managed to win and make it our second victory in this season. It was so vital for us, due to the fact that now we are still able to get into the final. The game was not easy, but we managed to keep our paste and pressure on the opponent throughout it. Yet, we have to stay focused during the two remaining games in order to make our way into the finals.

Creativity – Drawing

With my previous sketch I started the topic of drawing birds. I look for inspiration while browsing through pictures of animals on social media for example. I just search for something that catches my attention. I look for animals, birds in this case, that are not that common or not native to Poland. This time I found a picture of a palm cockatoo. As I have never heard of this type of cockatoo before, I found it interesting and worth picturing. What strikes me the most about this bird is that, contrary to other similar species, it is all black, apart from a small red spot next to the beak. Because my drawing is done by pencil and therefore without colour, this red accent can not be seen on it.

CAS Project – TEDx Designer

For my CAS project I will be joining the TEDx IB Raszyńska organisation team. I have been appointed the designer leader, which means I will be responsible for designing the logo and take care of all the gadgets, such as pens, bags or notebooks. I have been at TEDx IB Raszyńska last year and I really enjoyed the whole event. This is why, this year I decided to be a part of it. On our latest meetings we discussed the roles of every person, who the leaders will be and the general work plan. Our topic this year is „Same, but different”, which is to refer to human diversity and that although we differ from each other, we are all human beings and equal. I am really looking forward to this years TEDx and hope it will benefit all people that will be engaged in it, organisers, speakers and guests.

Service – Children’s Hospital of Warsaw Medical University

This time as we visited the hospital, there was a small shadow theatre going on. The story that was being told was „The Ugly Duckling” from Hans Christian Andersen. All the kids were really interested in the play and kept focused on the action. The idea to do it with shadows attracts children even more. Maybe some of them see similar performance for the first time, so it surely catches their attention. After the play kids were able to come up „behind-the-scenes” and look at all the props. There were also some Halloween themed ones, that caused furore among children. It was very rewarding to see those kids so happy at the moment playing with the ghost and pumpkin shadows and being so fascinated. Our job was to do some photos during the play and after that we were also delivering new games or books to social play rooms in different wards.

Action – Girls League

This time Lynx were our opponent. In this second game, our team had slight problems with few players being absent. This made the game a little harder and demanding, as each one of us had to do more time on court than normally. Though it was pretty exhausting, it payed off as we won with superiority of five points. This win surely made the whole effort rewarding and gave us the strength that we can achieve something. Although, the difference in points was not that big, so we still need to stay focused as a team and try hard on upcoming games. Yet, personally I feel quite satisfied with the outcome of the match.

Creativity – Drawing

As I have mentioned in the previous creativity post, I am now starting to explore deeper drawing birds. My first work depicts toco toucan. I have sketched it using a simple pencil. The topic about birds seems really interesting to me, because those creatures come in some many variations and are always so majestic. Undoubtedly, the tropical birds are especially colourful and vibrant. What more, birds are associated with freedom, due to their ability to fly, at least most of them. Being very light, they impersonate the free spirit, flying whenever it wants. This is why I am fascinated with them and therefore eager to draw different species in the upcoming weeks.

Service – Children’s Hospital of Warsaw Medical University

As we went on our voluntary work, our job this time was to disinfect a special wall for drawings for kids to colour, hang new pictures, sharpen crayons and generally put it all in order. Apart from creating the possibility for children to colour a bit their everyday life at hospital, it is also vital that the area is carefully disinfected. Kids at hospital may be less resistant to certain viruses or bacteria and therefore become easily infected. This is why the colouring walls are disinfected every time the images are changed. The importance of delivering new colourings is huge, so children can have constant access to fresh designs and do not get bored.
